Children accepted into our education sponsorship program understand the benefits that an education can provide but, due to the tough economic circumstances in Haiti, are unable to afford the minimum costs of tuition and fees required to attend public school. After submitting an application, they are evaluated by one of our in-country coordinators and must be approved by a member of the Haitian Roots Board of Directors before they are accepted to our program. For $300/year (or $25/month) you help a child attend school -- an opportunity taken for granted by most of us. To the children (and their families) in our sponsorship program, receiving an education means hope for the future and an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. You can change the life of one of these precious children by becoming a sponsor today!
If you give a man a fish he is hungry again in an hour. If you teach him to catch a fish you do him a good turn.

Bonjou! My name is Luckenson. My birthday is 3 Nov 2009 and I’m in the 3rd year kindergarten class. I live with my mother and my sister. At school I really like singing and I also like when we learn poems. I want to be a writer someday. My favorite sport is basketball! My best friend is my mom. When I’m not at school I just sleep most of the time. I think someday I can go to Canada to continue my studies and become a great writer! My teacher describes me as humbler and “adorable”! The hardest thing for me is that my father is not in my life and my mother struggles a lot to provide for us.

Someday maybe I can become a senator.

Hi! My name is Olsen. I just turned 12 years old on November 28 (born 2003). I attend the Haitian Roots Academy and am in the 6th grade. I live with my mom and little sister. I don’t remember my dad. He left when I was very young. I am kind and like serving others. I often care for my sister when my mom is not around. Maybe this is why I hope to become a doctor or something else in the medical profession someday.
Bonjou! I'm Dave! My birthday is Dec 30, 2009. I am very excited to be in school. I live in St Marc and am one of 4 children. Hello my name is Whitney. I am 6 years old and in first grade. In school I love learning how to read. I want to be a doctor someday. One of the best things about me is that I’m very loving and kind to everybody. My favorite color is red. My teachers say that I’m good at learning math and reading. I hope that someday I can visit Miami because I know some people like to go there.
Roodvan is 10 years old. We asked him some questions about himself and received the following information. He says the 5 best things about him are that he is: nice, wise, smart, a hard worker, and happy/joyful. We can attest to his being smart by the amazing grades he receives on all of his report cards. Roodvan says that he is a happy kid but he often still feels sad and worried about the future because his father was killed in the earthquake and his mother is struggling to care for him and he 2 siblings.
