Supporting Haiti's Children Through Education

Educational Sponsorship Program Requirements

All applicants for the Haitian Roots Educational Sponsorship Program must meet the following criteria:

  • The combined yearly income of child's parents must not exceed the equivalent of $1000 U.S. dollars per child under the age of 18 years living in the household.  For example, a family with 3 children under the age of 18 and living at home can make no more than the equivalent of $3000 U.S. dollars per year.
  • The child must live in Haiti and plan to attend their local school.
  • The child must have a reliable means of transportation to and from school.
  • The child or guardian must complete and submit a sponsorship application.

Upon approval, the child will be assigned a local program coordinator in Haiti.  The coordinator will arrange for disbursement of the necessary funds for tuition as well as a uniform and textbooks, where appropriate.  They will also ensure that the terms of sponsorship are being met.  Upon approval, each child must comply with the following terms of sponsorship:

  • The child must maintain acceptable or passing grades in all courses.  In the event that a child does not meet acceptable standards, they will enter into a state of probation for one year.  If during this probation the child does maintain an acceptable level of study, they will be subject to a loss of sponsorship at the discretion of Haitian Roots.
  • The child or parent must provide a receipt(s) by the end of the school term for all money received from Haitian Roots.  These receipts are to be given to their assigned coordinator.  Failure to provide receipts may result in suspension of all future money.
  • The child must provide an end-of-term grade report to their assigned coordinator.
  • The child must submit a written progress letter to their coordinator atleast every 6 months.  It is encouraged that the child write this letter, if capable.

Haitian Roots reserves the right to cancel or suspend sponsorship of the child should any of the above listed terms not be met.
