Educational Sponsorship Program Overview
The purpose of the Haitian Roots educational sponsorship program is to provide selected children in Haiti with the necessary money to attend their local school. The money is disbursed to the child's family through a local coordinator as needed to cover the cost of tuition. In cases of extreme need, money is also provided to cover the costs of a school uniform and textbooks.
In the selection process preference is generally given to primary school age children who are either ready to begin formal schooling or recently started their education. We believe that at the current time we would be most effective in sponsoring children who are not currently behind in their education. However, in the future we plan to broaden the program to include other groups of children.
The sponsorship program emphasizes accountability. All of the sponsored children and their families are accountable in this program. As part of the sponsorship agreement, each child or their parent must provide end-of-term grade reports, receipts for all money they receive and periodic update letters. This not helps ensure the funds are being used appropriately and that each child is benefiting from them but also helps make the family accountable for the assistance.
We encourage individuals, families and businesses to select a child to sponsor. A sponsorships is a $250 donation for a specific child to pay the costs of one year of schooling. Both the child and the sponsor will benefit from this partnership. The child and sponsor are both encouraged to write to each other through Haitian Roots. A sponsor can bring hope and joy as the child realizes that there is someone living thousands of miles away that cares for them and wants them to have a positive future. The child will bring joy as they share their progress in school and in their lives with their sponsor.
While full sponsorship is encouraged, donations of any amount are always greatly appreciated.
